Military college scholarships
Scholarship opportunities are available to qualifying active duty and active reserve US military personnel, honorably discharged veterans and military spouses and dependents. GU/MSB-Elk River offers the following institutional scholarship programs:
- Military Active Duty Scholarship. This scholarship program gives eligible active-duty service members and their families an award of for the amount equal to the difference between the current tuition rate and $250. Talk to our military student services staff to determine whether you qualify for this program – call 1-866-342-3505.
- Military Service Scholarship. This program is intended to compensate veterans and families of veterans who have been injured serving in Iraq or Afghanistan. To qualify, students must prove they participated in the Severely Injured Joint Operations Center or provide proof of family status in the case of spouses and dependents. Students who receive the award may receive between $1,000 and $5,000 to apply towards tuition.
- Military Advantage Scholarship. This scholarship supplements other military education benefits such as the GI Bill. The award covers 10% of the cost of tuition and books per quarter for qualifying students.
- Purple Heart Scholarship. This scholarship covers the remaining tuition and fees after other forms financial aid have been applied, such as GI bill benefits or federal and state financial aid programs. It is designed for military service members and veterans who were injured in the Gulf Wars, or for family members of those killed in action in the Gulf Wars.
High school student scholarships
We offer a number of scholarships and programs designed to help high school students make the most out of their college education. These opportunities include:
- High School Advantage. Qualifying high school seniors take up to four tuition-free college courses. The student must have a GPA of 2.0 or higher and be enrolled in a B.S. or A.A.S. program at our school.
- President’s Scholarship. A high school senior with a 2.0 GPA or higher may qualify for the President’s Scholarship, and receive an award of $2,000 for an application received before January 1st or $1,000 for an application received before April 1st.
- Director’s Academic Scholarship. A high school student who takes the Career Profile Assessment test (CPAt) may be eligible for an award up to $5,000, depending on the test results.
- Dream Act Scholarship. A student who has graduated from a Minnesota high school and has undocumented immigrant status may be eligible for this program, which awards 50% of the cost of a college program.
Other scholarships
- Community Service Scholarship. Qualified students must complete at least one term at our school to receive this award for community service and academic achievement.
- Business Alliance Scholarship. Qualified students currently employed by organizations approved by GU/MSB business alliance strategic partners may be eligible for scholarships equal to 10% of the cost of tuition.
- Professional Certification Scholarship. Students who qualify for this program will be reimbursed for certification exam fees in areas such as accounting, information technology, massage therapy and medical assistant.
